Research interests
I am working on ocean and climate dynamics, with a focus on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) in the past, present and future using state-of-the-art ocean-atmosphere-sea-ice-land coupled models. In particular I am involved in the following issues:
- Ocean dynamics: To understand the "possible future" of
the North Atlantic oceanic circulation by analysing the weight of
surface forcing changes and internal THC feedbacks on the AMOC
response to global warming. I also enlarge this analysis by
evaluating the role played by the Southern Ocean changes.
- Climate dynamics: To evaluate the interactions between
different components of the climate system, with a particular
interest concerning the ocean
and the ice sheets in future climate projections.
- Paleo-climate: To understand the mechanisms leading to
the changes in climate as reconstructed using different proxies, for
different time periods (last millennium, last glacial maximum,
Eemian)
- Oceanic carbon uptake: To analyse the impact of changes in ocean circulation and thermodynamics on the carbon cycle
using state-of-the-art biogeochemical model, with a focus on the North
Atlantic.
